Oconto River Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited

First Stream project for 2026 on Doty Creek

Our first habitat project of the season is coming up next Saturday May 16th. It will be a real close ride to just west of Marion at the Doty Creek Fisheries area. Doty creek is just west of Marion on Cty S just prior junction with Cty SS. See directions to the site HERE. We will meet at 8:30am sharp. Bring along gloves and waders/hip waders if you have them. It will be rain or shine.

Please see below for a summary and goals for the work we will be doing from Kyle Kossel WDNR:

The work to be conducted will be brush bundling and fishability brushing and showing off the previous work that you guys have done in the past. These techniques will help to narrow the stream to uncover gravel for spawning material, create depth and cover for holding fish, give nursery habitat for young of the year fish, and give opportunity for anglers to catch some fish.  Will also talk a little bit of the flooding that occurred at the site this spring. Will be using Christmas trees that will be staged ready to go plus onshore brush to create the bundles. We’re hoping to get 10 brush bundles completed and 500 to a 1000ft of stream brushed.

As always, please let me know if you are attending so I have enough food and beverages on hand for lunch.

Wayne and Dale please get the word out to your respective chapter membership, thanks much. It would be great to have a large turnout!

If you have any questions or if I can be of any further assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Hope to see you all on Saturday the 16th  !

Sincerely,
